Moving Recipes
Moving Recipes is a participatory artistic workshop that reimagines the recipe not as a fixed set of instructions, but as a living, migrating score — a vessel of memory, a choreography of hands, and a map of survival. Recipes are approached as intimate scripts through which stories of labor, lineage, adaptation, loss, and resistance are encoded and shared. They carry the warmth of inherited gestures, the touch of those who came before, and the improvisations born from movement, necessity, and care.
Through collective acts of storytelling, cooking, mapping, and performative documentation, participants will explore how food moves — across borders, bodies, generations, and homes — tracing the invisible routes of identity, memory, and cultural persistence. In the kitchen, we read more than ingredients; we read the histories of power, the economies of care, and the politics of taste.
Emerging from place-based artistic practices and everyday rituals, the workshop frames the kitchen as a lived studio — a site of sensory knowledge, embodied memory, and quiet resistance. It is a space where gestures are passed down, adapted, and reimagined in response to shifting landscapes, changing economies, and layered identities. Participants from all backgrounds are invited to reflect on how food becomes a language to express belonging, creativity, and resilience — whether shaped by migration, rootedness, or the hybrid spaces in between. The kitchen is not only where we prepare meals — it is where we rehearse care, remember together, and imagine otherwise.
What if recipes were maps? Not maps of where we’ve been, but of how we live now — speculative cartographies for navigating a world shaped by movement, ecological uncertainty, and the longing for connection. In Moving Recipes, cooking becomes an artistic method for assembling memory, reclaiming space, and making kin across difference.
