In this seminar students from all semesters and disciplines are introduced to central discussions traversing the concept of the curatorial. We will explore the thinking about the relationship between curating and the curatorial, as well as the roles that transdisciplinarity, transculturality, situatedness, and the public moment play in the construction of the field of the curatorial as knowledge producer in-between theory and practice. This seminar is intended for all of those who have an exhibition, publication or presentation project in mind, are planning one or are already involved in conceptualizing and realizing one. Beyond reading and discussing texts, we will conduct three external visits and devote time to individual projects.
Texts by a.o.: Beatrice von Bismarck, Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński, Irit Rogoff, Tom Holert, Maria Lind, Kien Nghi Ha, Banu Cennetoglu, Arjun Appadurai, Nora Sternfeld, Henri Lefebvre, Pierre Bourdieu, Raqs Media Collective, Wiebke Gronemeyer, Paul O’Neill, Walter Benjamin, Walter Mignolo, Alanna Lockward, Drew A. Thompson, André Lepecki, Felwine Sarr and Bénédicte Savoy, Anujah Fernando, Dorothee Richter, Homi Bhabha, Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung, Ariella Azoulay, Rolando Vasquez, Yvette Mutumba
