SOFTIIO

Knowledge seeks to be experienced. For school classes and teenagers, it‘s even harder to find the necessary focus or stillness to concentrate and to engage with what the museum has to offer. We want to enable visitors to spend time, immerse themselves and enjoy more sensory experiences in museums.

STOP, GO - Soft but consistent

During our visit to Goethe‘s house in Weimar, we observed the following: sensory experiences are not considered, you are not encouraged to linger, and there is no space to delve deeper.

Concept

Our idea for ‘SOFTIIO’ was to design a personal companion that gives visitors to the Goethe Wohnhaus the possibility to experience the museum in a different way, wrapped in a feeling of comfort. We aimed to design an object that you could take with you into the museum, and whenever you feel like a break or input about Goethe, it would be at your side.

Interaction

Thanks to a digital sensor system in our object, SOFTIIO enables a playful, intuitive and sensual interaction that follows your flow. The interaction is reminiscent of a game: a game between object and visitor based on movement and stillness. “STOP, GO, SOFTIIO” - It is soft but consistent. As soon as you move, the audio will stop. It rewards your stillness through haptic feedback and auditory output. The playful form of SOFTIIO invites exploration.

Some visitors could carry it by its handle, while the soft and flexible cushioned parts could be used like a pillow or hang around one’s neck.

Take a moment to listen, absorb your surroundings, surrender. Let go, relax, and be present.
