Since the start of the opening up of the Chinese economy in the late 1970s, Chinese enterprises had low-cost manufacturing as their key competitive advantage. More recently, however, as the Chinese economy continues to grow and labor cost to rise, China started to focus on innovation and design in order to sustain its competiveness in the world market.
